Billy Ocean – Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car

“Get Outta My Dreams, Get Into My Car” is a single by British singer Billy Ocean, based on a line from Ringo Starr’s song “You’re Sixteen”. Part of its popularity lay in its cutting-edge (for the time) video, which featured cartoon mixed with live-action sequences. The song went to number one on both the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and Hot Black Singles charts. It also peaked at number three on the UK Singles Chart. The song was also featured in the soundtrack of the 1988 film License to Drive. The song was covered by Fenix TX for the soundtrack of NASCAR Thunder 2003. In 2013, Gwar covered the song in a video featured on The A.V. Club website as part of the site’s A.V. Undercover series. Approximately three minutes into the performance, the band incorporates The Who’s “Baba O’Riley” into the song.

The Roots – You Got Me (featuring Erykah Badu)

“You Got Me” is a song by the hip hop band The Roots, featuring vocals by Erykah Badu (who sings the chorus) and Eve, then known as Eve of Destruction, who raps the second verse but does not appear in the music video. She is often thought to be the female that Black Thought lays next to on the concrete at the end, but said figure was merely just a resembling female. The track was released as a single from the band’s fourth studio album, Things Fall Apart (1999).

“You Got Me” was co-written by musician Jill Scott, who recorded vocals for the song’s chorus and bridge. Her part was subsequently re-recorded by Badu at the insistence of MCA Records, who wanted a higher-profile collaboration for the album’s official lead single (at the time, Scott was relatively unknown outside of Philadelphia). When the group later went on tour, Scott joined them during performances of the song. The original version was later released on the 2005 compilation Home Grown! The Beginners Guide to Understanding the Roots, Volume One.

Van Morrison – Brown Eyed Girl

“Brown Eyed Girl” is a song by Northern Irish singer-songwriter Van Morrison. Written and recorded in 1967 by Van Morrison and produced by Bang Records chief Bert Berns, it was first released in May 1967 on the album Blowin’ Your Mind!. When released as a single, it rose to number eight on the Cashbox charts, and reached number ten on the Billboard Hot 100. It featured the Sweet Inspirations singing back-up vocals and is widely considered to be Van Morrison’s signature song.
